The latest release of Spotcycle (version 46) makes it easier to view directions in the map view with mini pins We’ve just released Spotcycle 46.0 for Android and iOS that includes improvements to the interface to make it easier for customers to plan routes. We’ve replaced the station clustering pins with a new set of icons (“mini station pins”) that improves the visibility of bike share stations on the map, regardless of whether you are zoomed in or out on the map. Now when zoomed out, the station icons take up less space on the screen than the standard icons, making it easier to view route directions while simultaneously checking bike or ...

Patch update for Spotcycle on iOS resolves crashing issues with upgrading to 4.0. and other bugs

Thanks to our user feedback, we were able to resolve a number of issues with a patch update for Spotcycle on iOS (ver. 4.0.1) that is now available on the iTunes app store. This includes issues with a small number of upgrades in certain cases that crashed on launch after updating to version 4.0. In those cases, the crash was resolved by uninstalling and reinstalling the application, which inadvertently causes Favorites groups to be lost. Unfortunately, we are unable to retrieve them and apologize for that issue. Based on your input, we’ve also resolved a few bug fixes and updated the station data refresh function so that it refreshes when the ...

Upcoming Spotcycle update promises to make your favorite bike share app even better

Over the last few weeks, we’ve been upgrading Spotcycle to make it faster and easier to use (and even giving it a well-deserved facelift). We’ll be releasing the Spotcycle 4.0 for iOS and an update to 3.4.2 for Android users. We’ve built the latest version of Spotcycle 4.0 on the Spotcycle Lab project which means some of the features available in Spotcycle now (such as bike routes) will be phased out in our upcoming release. This also affects the Spotcycle update for Android. For those who had Spotcycle.net accounts, this is what it will mean to you after the new versions are launched: You will no longer be able to use bike routes; the ...

Taking a look behind the curtain: how Spotcycle works

We’ve chatted mostly about the features you see in our app — finding nearby bike stations, bikes and bike docks, new bike share schemes to our app, and improvements. It’s time we take a brief moment to look at how Spotcycle works behind the scenes! Bike share schemes typically keep their bike share data accessible to third party developers as Web services or in other formats (for instance, in XML files) on their own servers. The bike share data is retrieved by the server that feeds the Spotcycle application. The Spotcycle application interprets the data and displays it on your mobile device. When there are lags or blips on the ...
